Additional Dwelling Unit (ADU)

An additional dwelling unit might be the solution you’re looking for.

Thinking of building an additional unit or converting existing space for rental income or family to live in?

Since 2021, the City of Hamilton’s by-law has permitted additional dwelling units or alternate dwelling units (ADUs), which covers internal units (like basements) and detached units.

If you have extra space, ADUs are an excellent way to earn income or accommodate multi-generational families.

Detached ADUs are separate buildings on the same property as the main house, used for rental properties or in-law suites. Think converted garage or a whole new build with purpose and a complimentary design.
